Republican loyalists gathered over the weekend at the National Fairgrounds in Perry for fish, politics, and polls.

The annual event, founded by former Governor Sonny Perdue as ‘Sonny’s Fish Fry,’ is now sponsored by the Eighth Congressional District Republican Party. Congressman Austin Scott is the serving member from the 8th district.

Over 1,000 people attended Saturday’s event, including Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, U.S. Senator David Perdue, all five candidates for Governor, and three candidates for Lieutenant Governor.

Attendees cast their ballots in a straw poll during the event. Lt. Governor Casey Cagle had a slight edge over Secretary of State Brian Kemp while Senator Shafer won the poll for Lieutenant Governor handily.
