The Evans County Board of Education renewed the contract of their superintendent during a brief meeting Monday night.

The Board convened for their regularly scheduled meeting to address a number of issues, including the renewal of the contract for Dr. Martin Waters, system superintendent since 2016.

Dr. David Greene led the action on the agenda item, briefly saying that the contract was already discussed in Executive Session, which is not open to the public, and asked if there was a motion on the floor by a Board member.

The new contract approval passed by a vote of 5-0, with Board Member Tara Powell not present.

Waters thanked the Board for the renewed contract and told members of the public that his contract was for a term of three years and included a 2% raise that was allocated to other teachers and personnel, per the state law passed last year. The raise is a one-time bump, not for each year in the contract. Further pay increases will have to be approved by the Board. The contract is effective January 1, 2018.

The salary set by the Board in the previous year was $105,000 annually, bringing the new contract salary – with the 2% raise – to $107,100.

The School Board named waters Superintendent in August 2016 after he served as interim school superintendent for a short period. At the time, it was reported that his 2016 contract would run through June 30, 2017.
